Holland Ramirezi (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) - 4cm Very nice

Holland Ramirezi (often called Golden Holland Ram) is a selectively bred variant of the Ram Cichlid (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi), a dwarf cichlid species native to the Orinoco River Basin in South America.

Key Features

  • Size: 5–6 cm (2–2.5 inches) – ideal for nano or mid-sized tanks.
  • Coloration: Bright golden-yellow body with subtle blue or red highlights depending on lighting and mood.
  • Temperament: Peaceful and social; great for community aquariums.
  • Tank Requirements:
    • Temperature: 26–30 °C (78–86 °F)
    • pH: 6.0–7.0 (slightly acidic)
    • Soft water preferred
  • Behavior: Active but gentle, often seen hovering gracefully among plants or substrate. Forms strong pair bonds and may breed in home tanks under good conditions.

Why It’s Popular

  • Striking Appearance: The golden hue contrasts beautifully in planted aquascapes.
  • Peaceful Nature: Compatible with tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and other calm species.
  • Breeding: Exhibits fascinating parental care when spawning.

Care Tips

  • Provide a well-planted tank with hiding spots and open swimming areas.
  • Maintain stable water conditions—Ramirezi are sensitive to poor water quality.
  • Feed a varied diet: high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen or live foods like brine shrimp and daphnia.
